Why “Marooned” Democracy?

On Saturday, October 13th, 2018, the Donald J. Trump for President Campaign held a rally at Alumni Coliseum on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. After the rally was announced, a group of 120 faculty and professional staff signed an open letter to the President and Board of Regents expressing their objection to the presence of the campaign on their campus. Since the rally was held, many individuals and groups have expressed their desire to stand with the original signers of the letter in their call for a more stout defense of the principles of free speech and open discourse.

“Maroon” is one of the school colors of Eastern Kentucky University, but as a verb it can mean the intentional abandonment of someone–or something–out of malice or vengeance. This website has been created with the hopes of encouraging educators, students and all of the citizens of Kentucky to help rescue their democracy from the island retreats in it has been isolated.
